This September, my friend David and I walked California’s legendary John Muir Trail. After finishing what was one of the finest stretches of high alpine I’ve ever seen, we found ourselves juxtaposing California’s populated coastline in which we both grew up with the magnificent granite lakes and peaks of the High Sierra.
